Welcome To the Swinging Strings Blog

The Swinging Strings Project would like to welcome pupils, parents and all interested parties to our website. This blog tracks the progress of 80+ children (and their teachers!) as they learn the violin. It is intended to act as a resource for the pupils as they progress and act as an information point for parents, teachers etc.

The project is delivered on an inclusive basis and links to the Irish Primary Music Curriculum. This means that ALL students particpate irrespective of musical backgrounds. It is believed that it is the one of biggest inclusive projects of its kind in the country. Have a look around and learn all about our violin project. Our cover photo was taken by award winning press photographer, John Kelly.

Lots of fun in class today .  All classes began with practicing our 'snail'  hands and bunny rabbit bow hand with pencils . At last we put our bows on D string to make a shivery sound called a tremelo .
Try practicing your bow hold with a pencil . Have you got rabbits teeth and a bent thumb.

Mr Walsh's class worked out their coordinates .

We worked on Foxtrot a tune on D and A middle strings . How did we stop the strings vibrating at the end ?

Finally  we listened to the Bullfighter's March from the opera* Carmen and we learned how to conduct two beats in a  bar (Down Up)   See over on the left for a video of this piece .

We had some excellent cello players today , Laoise, Annie and Michael

Next week tummy grip bow hands and a new rhythm .

Opera is a story for the stage told completely in music and singing ( No talking bits)
