Welcome To the Swinging Strings Blog

The Swinging Strings Project would like to welcome pupils, parents and all interested parties to our website. This blog tracks the progress of 80+ children (and their teachers!) as they learn the violin. It is intended to act as a resource for the pupils as they progress and act as an information point for parents, teachers etc.

The project is delivered on an inclusive basis and links to the Irish Primary Music Curriculum. This means that ALL students particpate irrespective of musical backgrounds. It is believed that it is the one of biggest inclusive projects of its kind in the country. Have a look around and learn all about our violin project. Our cover photo was taken by award winning press photographer, John Kelly.

Violin Strings

Great Day At EnnisNS

We had a very exciting day at Ennis NS as all the 4th classes began the Swinging strings 2012 programme .    Well done to the classes of Mr Walsh, Mr Corry and Ms McMahon.  Super attention and concentration in the first class today!

*We met all the members of the bowed string family.  can you remember all four ?

*We learned about low pitched and high pitched instruments . What  is the lowest pitched member of the string family. ?
*We learned to hold our violins in two positions ,  (a) rest and (b) play position.
*We talked about a stringed instrument that was not a member of the bowed string family. What was it ? _ _ _ _
We played pizzicato ( plucking the string on  lowest string G to Old McDonald tack 18)
*We learned the names of all four violin strings (see above ) Thanks to Mr Blake for coming up with a great way of remembering the 4 letters)
I was very impressed with all my new students . Special mention today for Thomas (Mr Walsh) , Eileen (Mr. Corry) and  (Laoise, Ms McMahon)
Welcoming Mr Walsh
