Welcome To the Swinging Strings Blog

The Swinging Strings Project would like to welcome pupils, parents and all interested parties to our website. This blog tracks the progress of 80+ children (and their teachers!) as they learn the violin. It is intended to act as a resource for the pupils as they progress and act as an information point for parents, teachers etc.

The project is delivered on an inclusive basis and links to the Irish Primary Music Curriculum. This means that ALL students particpate irrespective of musical backgrounds. It is believed that it is the one of biggest inclusive projects of its kind in the country. Have a look around and learn all about our violin project. I had an early start this morning as all the fiddles had to be tuned before we set off for Shannon Airport . I had lots of help with opening cases and rosining and at ten o clock it was time to board the buses for the airport. In no time at all the fiddles were set out ready to play and it was time to sit back and enjoy the Knockanean and Milford programmes. Ennis National School were last on. All our announcers had one thing in common. They all like myself had red hair .

Well done to all the Swinging Strings. It was a great debut.

We were given a warm welcome by everyone at Shannon Airport. Dorothy Quinn looked after all the details and Director of Operations, Niall Maloney came down specially to hear and talk to us all.

The departures terminal at Shannon Airport is one of the largest spaces in the region. It made a brilliant performing arena for our young performers and we hope some of the travellers passing through enjoyed the performance. Thanks to all the parents, grandparents, travellers and friends who stopped to listen. I have no doubt it will be a day all the Swinging strings participants will remember will remember for a long time to come .
