Welcome To the Swinging Strings Blog

The Swinging Strings Project would like to welcome pupils, parents and all interested parties to our website. This blog tracks the progress of 80+ children (and their teachers!) as they learn the violin. It is intended to act as a resource for the pupils as they progress and act as an information point for parents, teachers etc.

The project is delivered on an inclusive basis and links to the Irish Primary Music Curriculum. This means that ALL students particpate irrespective of musical backgrounds. It is believed that it is the one of biggest inclusive projects of its kind in the country. Have a look around and learn all about our violin project. Our cover photo was taken by award winning press photographer, John Kelly.

Next week, we look forward to a visit from Dorothy Conaghan from the Learn and Explore Dept at the National Concert Hall.  Check out their website  on the right which has lots of fun games .

Me gotta' go pole the pirogue down the buyou

Cause' tonight I'm gonna' see my Machez a mio
Pick guitar, fill fruit jar, and be gay- oh
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun, on the buyou.

It was all about harmony today . We are getting ready to join the Ennis NS Band to make a super group- The Nash Big Band.  We added some chords to two of the band tunes.  We worked on Jumbalay and the big number from the musical Carousel.  We had lots of Liverpool fans in Mr Blakes's class who recognised the tune very often sung at football matches.

Chord  two or more notes played together. Most chords have three notes.

 A  B  C#  D  E  F# G   B  C  D    Chord of D is D F#A
             1    3    5           Chord  of A is A C# E

Ace clarinettist Ms de Buitléir dropped into Ms McMahon's class to play a few tunes with me . Clarinets are great jazz instruments and were developed first in Germany .
