We are delighted to announce that the Board of Management and Principal Mr. McInerney have approved  the Swinging Strings programme for  all incoming 4th class students commencing   September 12th  2012 . The project will again be coordinated by Fíona de Buitléir.

Looking ahead to next term , I post the aims of the music curriculum

Aims of the music curriculum

To enable the child to enjoy and understand music and to appreciate it critically

• To develop the child’s openness to, awareness of and response to a wide range of musical genres, including Irish music

• To develop the child’s capacity to express ideas, feelings and experiences through music as an individual and in collaboration with others

• To enable the child to develop his/her musical potential and to experience the excitement and satisfaction of being actively engaged in musical creativity

• To nurture the child’s self-esteem and self-confidence through participation in musical performance

• To foster higher-order thinking and lifelong learning through the acquisition of musical knowledge, skills, concepts and values

• To enhance the quality of the child’s life through aesthetic musical experience

The Swinging Strings After School Group gave their final performance last Monday in Room 12 for family members

We have had a very successful year with weekly classes. performances in the School Hall, Shannon Airport, and room 12. The 4th class groups performed on the streets in Ennis in a series of Flashmobs. We heard virtuoso fiddle players in Glor .

Music Education Providers in Ennis

Here is a round up of music education providers in Ennis . It si by no means comprehensive but give some ideas for routes into playing a musical instrument .

Ennis Brass Band offer free tuition and instrument loan  in return for regular commitment. Classes run on Thursday evenings in Band Room at Ennis Community College.   www.ennisbrassband.com

FlashMob Final Day Fun

Well ! What an exciting and energetic day we had today as the beginners module of Swinging Strings programme came to a close for this year . There is nothing like live music so we took our newly acquired strings skills on to the streets of Ennis  to add to the soundscape  and the busking scene of the Clare county town today.

Venue 1 Ms McMahon and class took up their positions outside the Cathedral . There was lots of room and we loved the square paving stones . Among the audience was Fiona Walsh of Ennis Gospel Choir  and her lovely little dog .

Venue 2 The rain held off as Mr Blake and his class took up position in Barrack Street outside The Gourmet Store. The accoustics were very good here and Anne and David the proprietors gave us a warm welcome. Ger Loughnane was among the passers by at this spot.

Venue 3 Finally, Mr Corry and his class made their way to the Temple Gate .  All the windows opened to hear our set as an American  tour group had just checked in . A serenade under their window was not quite what they were expecting!

 Last lesson -  Final performance next week.
Well it was time for our final lesson today.  What an exciting year it has been.  We have one final concert to perform We worked on our Twinkle. The 'echo' echo variation worked very well.  Our three tunes for our graduation performance next week are Twinkle, Blues and Foxtrot.  There were some surprises today in all the classes. We talked to students about their music classes outside school.  Here are the highlights

In Ms McMahon's class , Damien played Frere Jacque,- the whole tune ! Bravo The class played the first part with him . These are the notes.  Lucy did a good job of leading today.

Daniel, Thomas and James in Mr Corry's class  are all apprentices to Ennis Brass Band and they told us a little about the classes and their instruments.  . Hopefully we will have a chance to hear them soon. Oisin and Rebecca played bass on Foxtrot
Eoin played a super polka  and we played  a pizzicato accompaniment to it. He also told us about his violin class with Siobhan Peoples . Siobhan and her dad Tommy Peoples are great fiddle players . This week Tommy Peoples was elected to Aosdana, Click  here to read an article about this great traditional musician.
ENCORE French Word meaning 'again' .  Sometimes it means please play another tune if the audience really like a performance
